My family and I are going to Washington D.C. :flagus: this weekend for vacation! I'm very excitied, I've always wanted to visit the capital.

I'll be seeing all the monuments, as well as the WWII Memorial. While I was looking up the visiting hours for the memorial, I was able to look up my grandfather name among the veterans registry. My grandfather was in the navy during WWII, where he went to the Pacific. I don't really remember whether or not he actually saw some fighting but I'm proud of him. He was also rewarded some medals, which my father wants to find now (we believe my uncle has them, but we're not entirely sure). My grandfather name isn't present on the memorial, from what my great aunt told me, but it would be nice to see his service honored by the country he served.

I'll also be going to the Smithsonian, the National Zoo (of course ;)), various presedential memorials and monuments, and so much more! The only thing that's weird is that there's no beach nearby. Usually when my family goes on vacation, we would choose a place close to a beach, such as Montauk, New York and Wildwood, New Jersey. So going to a place were there's no beach is a bit different. However, we have gone to Hershey, Pennslyvania, and the Sesame Place where waterparks and rides took the place of beaches, but we only went to those places once.

I'll be coming back with pics, as well. I hope the weather will be nice for some great floral and animal shots! :camera:

As for other news, I'm searching markets for publication, with helpful advice from my uncle's stepdaughter. One piece of advice is to NEVER pay to have your piece published, or entered into a contest (there's a reason but I can't remember it very well).

One more thing, my friend got me addicted to this new site called Goodreads- [link] where you can make your own virtual bookshelfs of literature you have read or plan to read, and read updates on what your friends are currently reading and most interested in. You all should really check it out! :library:
